@.politicallyspeaking: I’m not saying these are exclusively working class habits, anyone can do them, it’s more that they were just things I exclusively picked up from my family #workingclass #povertyline #universalcredit #builtnotbought #university

Even as a fully grown 34 year old woman I am enraged by the suggestion of splitting restaurant bills equally between us all, especially if it’s not brought up until the end because of course I’m being careful with my choices when I buy things and then you wanna make me pay for your food too! No! 🤣

Also, you can only use the hot water once at the time. If I'm taking a shower, you cannot wash the dishes, or use hot water in general. It mind blowing when I went to a friend's house and they could do it

Was only when I went to uni that I realised people had ✨ options ✨ with shoes. I always just had one pair of school shoes and one pair of Everything Else shoes

The bath water one genuinely annoys me because yes, as an adult I know it sounds gross, but as a child it’s not like I had any choice over my parents’ finances?!

Pls don’t keep the oven open after cooking! Carbon monoxide is a silent killer…

Middle class but can relate 😅 apart from the money back thing, the only people I knew who did that at uni were the kids who went to these super expensive private schools. One gave me yoghurt she didn't like and then charged me for it 😭

i grew up dirt poor and the habits are hard to kill 😅 it kills me every time i empty and refill a fresh bath for my kids. i still keep the energy bills down by using physics, my curtains were closed all summer but ill turn it into a greenhouse for winter 😉

Can't lie we did do a lot of these when I was younger, the boiler thing stopped when we moved presumably bc the boiler was fancy, we shared the bath water when we were kids but not like after 10/11, you gotta take sauce and salt packets home really, as well as straws like cmon, we didn't do the oven one bc my mother would rather us all freeze, we did do the jumper one which was hell when my window broke, meaning my room was the same temperature as outside in mid winter

Some of the wealthiest people I know are the most frugal - I've been made to share bath water in a manor house. And they used their Aga for heating the room and all huddled round in thick cardis and blankets 😂

Hey I hope you dont mind me pointing this out, but the heat in your oven doesn't have anywhere else to go but into your house, having the door open just makes that happen faster 🙂

We didn’t share baths but my mam would time our showers and knock on the door as our signal to get out. The hot water thing is very real as well, I remember being so shocked using a hot tap on someone else’s house and it worked straight away

From a middle class family but the boiler one is REAL! I didn’t know there was another way till I told my friend I needed to shower then went “I’ll put the hot water on now so i can shower in 10 mins” and they looked at me like i was weird

we didn't have hot water in the taps , and when at college we did food tech to make stock I went to go fill up with hot water from the tap. I was then told that you don't do that. felt very weird lol

In first year of uni I asked my flatmates if anyone else wanted a shower / wanted to wash up as I was about to get in the shower and they were SO CONFUSED about why I felt the need to announce that I was showering 😂 they had never heard of the hot water thing

I'm so glad water was free in my apartment growing up - and usually is in Swedish rentals.
