People truly dont understand recovery sometimes. I broke my foot in multiple places lucky enough to not have to have surgery as long as I stayed non weight bearing for over 2 months. even when you get permission to start walking in a boot, you can but learning how to re walk when the boot comes off is the challenge. people dont realize walking even in a boot it still stabilizes you and your foot is not physically touching the floor. it took another 3 months for me to feel semi normal to walk and a good year to feel 100% better.

I am in the same boat your in. I was in a terrible Motorcycle Accident in June of 2025. I broke 3 toes, my metorsol bone (top of left foot), fractured left ankle, shattered left knee, shattered my left femur, shattered my right clavicle, and had left tissue damage with a large skin graft from just above my left knee to mid shin. I am in PT to learn how to get around on my legs. I was in "sitting mode" for 8 months. You will get there and I am happy you have come this far in your recovery. Keep up the positive vibes and energy to move forward. Hugs to you [Red heart]

You are being smart…, take your time and let the therapy do what it needs to do.

I'm surprised you weren't given a walker. I couldn't do crutches (they muffed up my balance too bad). If they haven't been in a similar situation people have no idea just how fast muscles atrophy.

I was non-weight bearing for 3 months, hardware removal after 6 months, it took about 15-16 months to feel like I was walking around normally. 🥹 You're doing great.

i learned to walk four times! it’s crazy how your legs “forget”!!! i feel like they honestly don’t get it unless they’ve been through something like it

My son- a 6’4” strong young healthy firefighter- was struck from behind by a truck while helping a driver on the side of the road. It hit the back of his knee and threw him over the guardrail. His knee dislocated and shredded every single ligament except one. It took two surgeries and six months before he could put weight on it and then another three months before he could walk without assistance. Leg injuries are no joke and you only get to recover the right way once! So better to take the time to heal properly before forcing anything!

Please wait for the PT to tell you how best to strengthen your muscles and how to begin “walking” . No need to rush things and potentially set back your recovery. You’re doing awesome!

I remember trying to walk after like 2 months of not weight bearing on one foot. My leg was so weak and skinny. I had to build it up, started walking with crutches first, and not putting full weight down. Then gradually built it up. Once I got rid of the moon boot I then had to teach my body to not limp because the moon boot has a thick bottom to it.
