I see what you’re saying but I have a question! If the people in power want women to stay at home and be the core of the family, why don’t they incentivize that decision? High COL, difficult for *most* families to live on 1 income, no standard for maternity leave, etc

The mark of true freedom of choice is the ability to change your mind. In the support that you get when you do. I have an engineering degree, but was very sick after the birth of our daughter. I ended up staying home with My kids for 10 years. One day I told my husband that I wanted to change careers, get a masters degree and put the kids in daycare. I was endlessly supported in this for three years until I graduated. With him working full time, doing most of the home stuff so I could work part time and study. Now I’m working and we share both in home and work commitments equally. I know if I wanted to go back to engineering or staying home, I would be supported in that. Also, I finished my degrees, paid for my own education with grants and scholarships. Those credentials are mine free and clear and I can use them however I want. Choice and how choices are supported are the mark of liberty.

heh heh heh I feel like a weird ninja. On paper, my family is a conservative dream. Man and woman married with biological children all in a home with a mortgage that gets paid thanks to his job while she stays home. IRL… We don’t fit in the box properly. 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t see the like “sour dough/homestead” lifestyle as a way to give more power away. It feels more like taking it back. I don’t need your eggs, bread, milk, veggies…I see it as a way to unplug from the system. I do understand though that trad wives and homesteaders are two different flavors of people. I think I just talked myself in a circle 🧐

Loved your essay about this subject. I agree that the pivot point here is CHOICE. But regardless of one's choice, we as women deserve to choose from a position of awareness and in support of the unmitigated freedom to make our own choices.
