I genuinely enjoy how flatly mean spirited these are. The basic reading is that it's something figurative; that would give some meaning to the banal cruelty. Yet, the more you read (either one comic multiple times or continued releases), it becomes more clear that there's nothing here but a kind of wicked bathos. Tragicomic, five stars, no notes.

too many y'all don't understand why he does it. it's his own self reflection. whenever the goblin experiences joy that's him having a moment of clarity but ultimately he hates himself too much to let it last and feels he doesn't deserve that happiness hence why he hurts himself or snuffs that joy in the bud
