Sending some seafloor squish magic into your feed 💫 ⁠ The sea slug Bathydoris aioca was first described in 1962 from a dead specimen brought up to the surface in a dredge sample, and until recently, scientists did not know what a living Bathydoris looked like.⁠ ⁠ This video was collected in 2012 during MBARI's cruise in the Gulf of California at a depth of 3,179 meters (10,429 feet). The deepest observation of this species from MBARI ROVs is from 3,313 meters (10,869 feet)—500 meters (1,640 feet) deeper than their published depth range! ⁠In this video, you'll see two red dots, which are lasers that measure 29 centimeters (about 12 inches) apart. #DeepSea #DeepOcean #MBARI
