Big brother, you’re making sense, but you’re making sense in the wrong conversation. So you want to tell us that someone can travel all the way to Dubai or China, buy only 10 phones, and come back home, and you expect that person to pay tax on all of them? Come on, big brother. You really talk well, but this time you’ve chosen the wrong path.
A lot of countries allow people to enter with 10, 15 or even more electronic devices without charging them tax, especially when they’ve been outside the country for a long period. People travel for years and come back home with phones, laptops and other items to surprise their friends and family. Is that suddenly a crime? Are we now saying people shouldn’t surprise their families anymore? 😂 Aba!
We all want the country to reset and improve, and we support measures that will help the country, but this particular one is too much.
Go and check Côte d’Ivoire mpo. People are allowed to enter with their personal electronic devices without being charged tax simply because they brought them back home. Do you even know how much someone has already spent buying those phones abroad?
Imagine someone travels for years, goes to another country, buys 10 or 15 phones with their own hard-earned money, and the country they bought them from allows them to travel with those devices without tax. Then when they finally come back home to surprise their friends or family, you want to tax them again on the same items?
Before we make these kinds of decisions, we need to think about the ordinary person too. Not everything should be treated as a business import. There should be a clear difference between someone importing phones for commercial purposes and someone simply returning home with personal or family items.
We love our country, but this one honestly doesn’t make sense to me.
