Because a group of humans thought beating a defenseless dog nearly to death was entertaining. She wasn’t bothering anyone. She wasn’t a threat. She was just there. Just existing. And that was enough for them. They came at her laughing, while she screamed. The blows were merciless. They left her battered and bleeding in the street, her body broken and her eyes so swollen and damaged they began to rupture. The trauma was so intense it caused pressure behind her eyes to build to such extremes that her corneas began to bulge outward — until they finally tore open. What they did to her can’t be undone. Hannah is now blind...but she is also still alive — somehow. Here at the sanctuary, her body is fighting a fierce infection, the result of the pus that has been pouring from her ruptured eyes and we have her hooked up to IV fluids so she can get antibiotics around the clock and hopefully stabilize enough for surgery. Both of her eyes need to be removed. The damage is beyond repair. And the trauma... we can’t even begin to describe what it must feel like, not just physically but emotionally — to be attacked so viciously, to lose your sight, and to be left behind in agony, as if your life meant nothing. But Hannah’s life does mean something. It means everything to us. And we know it means something to you too.
