The elected prosecutor in Clark County, Nevada, read aloud a statement today from Tupac Shakur's sister Set and stepbrother Mopreme after a jury on Monday convicted Duane "Keffe D" Davis of murder for his role in Shakur's 1996 fatal shooting. "Above all, we honor Afeni Shakur, a mother whose strength and unshakable belief in her son's truth carried this fight long before any of us knew where it would lead." "Above all, we honor Afeni Shakur, a mother whose strength and unshakable belief in her son's truth carried this fight long before any of us knew where it would lead. The family of Tupac Amaru Shakur is elated and relieved by today's verdict. It was actually yesterday's verdict." "We would like to thank the jury for thoughtfully fulfilling their duty and carefully listening to all of the evidence. Our deepest appreciation goes to our family, friends, loved ones, and all of Tupac's fans, who have always provided their love and support. We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the marshals and advocates, and one of those advocates is right here, Haley, who supported and protected us throughout this process. Your steady presence and care did not go unnoticed, and we are forever grateful. While this verdict is decades in the making, this is not the end of the story. Tupac's legacy and impact on the world lives on, and we will continue to do everything we can to keep his spirit alive." Jurors deliberated about three hours on Monday before convicting Davis of first-degree murder. He's scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 13. Davis repeatedly spoke publicly about his role in Shakur’s Sept. 7, 1996, shooting in interviews and in his “Compton Street Legend” memoir. Prosecutors say he supplied the gun and was in the white Cadillac when his nephew, Orlando Anderson, fired the fatal shots. Anderson died in a shootout at a Compton car wash in 1998; he was 23. Davis’ statements were used against him in trial, including recorded interviews with police in 2008 and 2009 and a 2017 interview for the documentary “Death Row Chronicles.” Two film producers testified, and jurors also saw portions of other interviews, including with YouTube interview DJ Vlad in July 2019 and May 2023. #law #crime #rap
