The hum. I should look into why the electrical hum is so bad for us. To have that everywhere sounds like it would cause so much disruption alone interpersonally

I was observing the skyline in Tysons, VA, when I saw a building with a company’s logo I’d never seen before… Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, has a little bitcoin logo following their word mark. Turns out they’re the currently the largest corporate holder of cryptocurrency in the world.

a non trivial amount of the power that's used is, that would not of been used otherwise, akin to when there can be problems with excess solar around midday in areas with significant solar. but yeah couple all the large btc miners literally pivoting into a.i data centers, most certainly not great

I thought 95% of Bitcoin's strict 21 million supply cap had already been mined. I know it takes more and more compute and energy to mine remaining coins, so each subsequent coin will cause significantly more environmental damage, but shouldn't the be production costs to mine become too expensive soon? Will Bitcoin miners scale down as the juice isn't worth the squeeze?

Are we going to talk about how at one point Iran was using 60% of their power for bitcoin mining?
