I miss the days when falling in love was the long process of getting to know someone. Our instant gratification culture had taken that away 💔

it’s ironic that half of the comment section does exactly what the video warns about: reactive finger-pointing and guilt-assignment instead of deliberate and empathetic engagement with the world around us. it’s rarely ever just “the one thing” (eg lack of reading, capitalism)— the video itself “admits” and even partially walks back the clickbaity hook (her words,

Super dope video, I was just talking with my mother about how capitalism, and its necessity to optimize, then commercialize everything has gotten to a point where no one approaches media the same anymore. That deeper dive into something such as music, and hearing an older person play a song you liked, then listening to their catalog, slowly building a taste for things you do and don’t like about music, is pretty much gone. I never would’ve connected it that it also plays in our innerpersonal relationships as well.

This may be one of the most intelligent, interesting and poignant discussions of the modern condition that I've come across. Absolutely spot on!

Absolutely love all the this I like to think of perspective as respective 😏. Meaning to step into the realm of intelligence and intimacy of another being to step out of our own perspective .

Dude… this. I have always used gifting books as a form of love in partnership. Love an exchange of thoughtful books and notes. Didn’t realize that there were more layers to the health of that. Just heard that “only 17% of the US population finished one book in 2024”… anyways. SOMETIMES the algorithm hands me something that I have actually been thinking about my own world, not the world I am being told to think about. Thanks!

This is some excellent food for thought! I also like that you mentioned that it doesn’t just have to be through reading. It makes me think about musicians who I have listened to for many years. Engaging with their art over time allows me to track themes throughout multiple albums and continue to mull over the ideas as the artist changes and as I change.

The incentives simply aren’t there in modernity. Intimacy comes in many forms. I think society is beginning to question the idea that romantic love/intimacy are somehow a given virtue. There are many problems but believe there are many layers under what you’ve said here worth exploring without starting from conclusions.

good connection there with oppositional conflict culture and its outcome of "othering" people into opponents rather than collaborators.

I know this may seems unrelated, but I fully agree. One of spaces I see this over and over very clearly is mobile gaming. There are sooooo many games that slowly remove your relevance from the game and blows my mind how many people actually enjoy their irrelevance. They don't even recognize that they essentially are just watching a sped up ad revenue pipeline where they occasionally have to poke the screen to give permission to the game to play itself.
