My true answer, I am an introvert, I am only here for the paycheck and benefits—I work in customer service so I am an expert at pretending to care—but as soon as I move on to my next job (and I will) I will immediately forget the name of every coworker here. Coworkers are not friends, I don’t socialize or fraternize with them, nor talk to them unless I am being paid to do so. If I find that my silence and seemingly standoffishness offends someone (it always does) I will feign conversations with them, asking them about their interests and hobbies, let them talk about themselves—until they feel better (but I still won’t care) (see above) I do have a real life and real loved ones that I do life with (and coworkers will never be more important to me than a person I have never met). This is how I handle all coworkers.
