What’s happening with your avoidantly attached ex now? Probably some version of the same internal pattern they had with you. A new relationship can create novelty, dopamine, hope, and temporary relief. But a new partner does not automatically create a new nervous system. If someone has not developed self-awareness, healed their attachment wounds, learned how to tolerate intimacy, taken accountability, or changed the behaviors that damaged the last relationship, those patterns usually travel with them. Different person. Same unresolved system. That does not mean you need to sit around waiting for their new relationship to fail. That is still keeping your energy attached to them. Your real work is noticing the difference between your path and theirs. Maybe they are repeating. But you are becoming aware. You are healing the abandonment wound. You are learning why you became attached. You are rebuilding your life. You are becoming more emotionally secure. You are detaching from the need to know what they are doing, who they are with, or whether they finally understand what they lost. And yes, when you genuinely detach, the dynamic changes because you are no longer participating in it the same way. Whether they feel that shift, learn from it, or change because of it is their business. Your job is not to awaken them. Your job is to awaken you. Release them to their path. Put your energy back into your body, your purpose, your relationships, your healing, and the life that is still waiting for you. That is how the cycle actually ends.
