I guess I love my parents but I really don’t like being around them. They want to be close but are so self absorbed and use me as an emotional crutch so its exhausting. I’m still not heard as an adult. I’ve given up on wishing it was different or trying to make it so. I just want to put it all behind me.

I don't ever remember my parents showing me empathy, sympathy or compassion as a child. Now that my father is older & facing his mortality he expects me to show those emotions towards him & I all I feel is cringe ... ugh, the calls. I did everything opposite w/my child & we have an amazing relationship.

Every time my mom calls I need time to count and answer or better take a long time to call her back because it’s always she want to come visit or wants to know when I’m going 3 hours away and bottom line I don’t want to go or talk to her

Some parents (mom) has disrupted my nervous system from birth. For some reason her love for me has always felt conditional. What can I do for her? What can make her look good in my presence or my accomplishments. Now my dad, he just sees me and smiles ear to ear and I feel his love, acceptance and respect for me.
