The delegation included leaders associated with Satmar, Bobov, Skver and Vizhnitz, along with Rabbi Malkiel Kotler of Lakewood’s Beth Medrash Govoha. The Skverer Rebbe was represented by his son. The meeting focused on issues affecting Orthodox Jewish communities, including religious liberty and the independence of yeshiva education. The Israeli military draft of Haredi yeshiva students was also expected to be a topic of discussion, although reports differed on how central that issue would be. The gathering was notable because some of the invited leaders, particularly those associated with Satmar, hold strongly anti-Zionist or non-Zionist positions.
