@sustainableholly: *including myself 🤭 but now we do! 🍅🌱 Growing food can be as simple or as complicated as you like 🌱🌶🌿🌸 I always take tomato cuttings and place them in a jar of water to send off roots - which works amazing!! But... Then i thought why not just chuck them straight in the garden? Turns out it can be that easy! I love finding ways to make growing food easy ABUNDANT and enjoyable. This main tomato plant grew because i burried an old tomato in the garden at the end of last summer. Now i am not only picking ripe tomatoes in winter but i have my own tomato plant nursery to create more plants! 🍅 THE DETAILS 🍅 1. cut off a side branch from your tomato plant (sucker/ side shoot growing out from the plants "armpit" 🤭) 2. remove most leaves to preserve energy and moisture 3. remove flowers until it is established 4. the roots form along the whole stem so bury it 5. keep the soil moist (not soggy) 👉 Do it early in the season because if the main plant has any bugs or disease the cuttings will obviously too. I wish more people knew! Share if you agree 🌱🍅 #tomatoes #growingtomatoes #growingfoodathome #gardeningtip #ediblegardening
I’ve tried this many times, they always wilt and die. The only time I can get them to grow is if I place the stems in water until they grow roots then plant them.

This does not work like this. You have to add the sucker to water and let roots appear first.

I tried this about 2 weeks ago. It looked dead and I went to pull it out the other day and forgot. Well…. I saw it today planting seeds and she’s alive 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Definitely a trust the process moment I think 😂

I'm in Canada, midway through the season we had a storm that broke off a bunch of branches just as they started fruiting. I stuck them all in the ground as is, didn't even trim. they're as big as all the others now and producing bunches

I had a branch droop to the ground and where it touched, it rooted. While still attached to the plant. The nerd in me is very interested in how it's gonna turn out!

It’s actually a great idea. I do the same. When I picked the bottom branches I always do this.
