This is another ah-ha moment for me. I think I am an emotional robot. It never occurred to me that I could do a ritual, even if I don't believe in it. Scientifically, I'm just connecting with myself, which, in the end, is really all I want to do. So.... please keep going, what rituals?

For anyone who believes exclusively in rationality, here’s a fun experiment: be extremely mindful while eating your next meal. Notice your hands as they move towards the plate; feel the food in your mouth while chewing; notice how much you’re consciously controlling and how much is happening automatically. I would not recommend this to anyone with a fragile or rigid worldview

This is exactly what I do. I am an atheist, but I still do a significant amount of ritual that I’ve kept and or altered for my current reality. We have to process stuff and ritual is so helpful. The pushback to this seems unreasonable. It’s like they can’t hold two ideas at once.

The thing about rituals and witchcraft let’s say is that I’m holding the intention while I’m doing something weird. It’s not rational to put a bunch of herbs in a jar with water, write my intention, then light a candle and put a glass of water in front of it while I talk to my ancestors about it. It makes no sense, but what it does do is have me sit and focus on my intention and create peace around it and create a joy around it and create an expansion around it while I’m doing very odd things that trip up the brain as opposed to worrying about the thing that is un desiring, manipulating others to get the thing I desire or acting out and desperation to get the thing I desire. These rituals are done for a reason and it’s rooted in the mind and how the mind and subconscious work.

this subject is pretty interesting ro me. I'm wondering now about the "idol worship" warning from the religion I grew up in and how that influences the way I view famous actors. How, in order to not do a bad thing by idolizing, I still keep the acting separate from the actor in my head and if there is a connection with what you just explained regarding ritual and its potentially beneficial affects on our psyche. Do you have any neurological info you might share on this?

I work with these rational software engineer types. They are the same type of people that argue over the validity of Jedi religions or the realism of aspects of superhero movies. Their rationality is all based off wrong assumptions about life.

To break patriarchy does not mean one must go matriarchy. The opposite of both matriarchy and patriarchy is the lack thereof. The best outcome is egalitarianism. Example: the Barbie movie actually explores both matriarchy and patriarchy and their consequences where at the end it’s determined egalitarian is the proper way forward. At first the kens are oppressed under the Barbie matriarchy and they fight back. Then the Barbies are oppressed under the Ken patriarchy…

I thought I was imagining it because not many children could keep quiet while mom is delivering a great speech. I believe it’s very irrational to be completely rational. Processing thoughts only based on facts makes no sense to me. Especially when some of these ‘facts’ were ‘not facts’ at some point of our existence as humans. I’ve realised most atheist are just doing exactly what they complain about theists. Holding firm beliefs in something without the capacity to consider another view point. It’s no wonder some theists say ‘atheism is just a religion of science’.
