Unfortunately, it has always been a thing most booksmart people have no common sense and no real world understanding unless they can find a way to read it in a book and most people who have common sense are average intelligence.

Well it doesn’t change. 42 years old with 4 graduate degrees and right & left direction mess me up!! The gifted classes are special education too, fyi. Just the other side of the spectrum.

As someone with straight A’s and etc, yeah I have like bad situational awareness, suck at tone, my common sense sucks and so on. I’m not that bad w/ social stuff since I got a lot of friends but yk

That’s why so many of us running around undiagnosed. They just thought we were “ book smart”and not “street smart” whole time … I don’t understand social cues 😂😂😂

Experience is what makes the sense common… he wasn’t exposed to certain things he should have by now. I am not judging but it happened/happens to me I was sheltered as well Ik my people when I see them

My boyfriend and I have had this same conversation. I’m book smart, but am so slow outside of my books while he’s street/common sense smart, but isn’t as intellectual when it comes to books. I think, in a weird way, we’re both learning off of each other, cause wow I was so behind on a lot of things😭

Mamas that's bc you're doing everything for them, you gotta start letting them figure things out, learning where things are in the house, make them look for things! Help with chores. This seems to be helping mine

They are sheltered, smart kids are always sheltered bc adults always get them out of "street situations" bc they think the kids are going to make it in academics and get a lot of money, "dumb" kids don't get sheltered in the same way bc "they have to learn to survive, since they aren't going far"
