Singers, when you go for a high note, you are either coordinating or your compensating. If you're coordinating, the high notes get easier, stronger, and better. If you're compensating, they generally get heavier, more difficult and worse and you run the risk of damaging your voice. When you're coordinating, you have three sets of resistances balanced. 1. the breathing muscles resist each other. 2. the vocal cords resist the air. 3. the muscles that work the vocal cords resist each other. When all of those three sets are balanced, you are really in good line with the coordinated voice then all it is is refinement. You're gonna then clean up the first bridge, which is the gateway to the high notes and things are gonna start going very well. If you're compensating, one of the main things you do usually is going into a swallowing condition. The larynx starts going up because the body thinks it's swallowing and then you have to sing against that tension, which makes you compensate more by blowing more air and the whole thing is a vicious circle. What you wanna do is identify as soon as you can which set of resistance is out of balance and start tuning in to fix that… then lock the other two sets of resistances in and the next thing you know, you'll have much more coordinated voice. The high notes will start getting easy. The first bridge will clean up and you'll stop compensating and you'll be on your way. #singersongwriters #singingtips #vocalcoaching #vocaltechnique #singinginpublic @Vocal Decoding
