My husband took Xanax for 15 years and he doesn’t remember half of that time. Thankfully he got a new doctor that took him off. Come to find out the Xanax was causing his anxiety. Also at that time my husband was prescribed 5 narcotics such as Xanax and Valium at the same time. The Valium was supposed to be a muscle relaxer 😳 this was many years ago and I pray doctors do not prescribe these meds like candy anymore.

Meh. I’m on 0.25mg and I only take it when the attack won’t stop. I also only get a few pills per month. I was terrified of becoming addicted but my panic attacks are hormonal so CBT didn’t work.

would be nice if posts like these did more to help those who have been taking it for many years as prescribed and now have to suddenly wean and docs are clueless and judgemental.

I only use lowest dose, for root canal. And after my 15 mo old was in the hospital for 3 weeks, then at his funeral. I stopped soon after.

xanax made me say things I never would have said without it, and I never remembered saying the things, and then I would sleep. I hated it. xanax and Ativan made me have fugue states with my bipolar

I’ve used it for 20 years for panic disorder. Some days I don’t need it, other days I need it badly. I try to force myself to not take it if I don’t have to, but a panic attack is so horrendous that frankly I’d do just about anything to stop one. I’ve tried psychologists and such, I’ve tried all sorts of different meds, I’ve tried so so much. It’s utterly exhausting. I wish there was a cure for them. People forget that a panic disorder is literally being terrified of fear itself. I’m afraid of virtually nothing anymore, aside from the next panic attack. It’s literally ruined my life since 2002. Lost relationships, jobs, homes, etc. and Xanax is the only thing that (usually) keeps them at bay.

I’ve been on various brands of benzodiazepines non-stop for decades. I take Clonazepam (Klonopin) because it stays in my system longer, but it takes a while to kick in. I also take Opioids (Hydrocodone) for chronic back pain. I’m very careful to not take those 2 meds at the same time, especially at bedtime, but they’re fairly low doses.

I hated Xanax. I asked to transition to a slower acting but longer acting medication. My dr looked at me like I had 3 heads. Apparently patients usually fight going off it.
