@metaphysiko: The In-N-Out sign across the highway had been closed for years. That was why I stopped when I saw the lights on. It was 11:48 p.m. The building looked normal. White walls. Red trim. The palm trees barely moving in the wind. I pulled into the empty parking lot. There were no cars. No employees. But the drive-thru menu was glowing. I rolled down my window. A speaker crackled. “Can I take your order?” I almost drove away. Then the voice said my name. “Daniel?” I had never been there before. I whispered, “Who is this?” Static. Then: “Your usual.” I looked at the menu. There was only one item. DOUBLE-DOUBLE — $0.00 I drove to the window. Nobody was there. The window slid open by itself. A paper bag sat on the counter. My name was written across it. I didn’t touch it. Something inside the bag moved. Once. I reversed the car. The speaker crackled again. “You forgot your receipt.” I looked at the rearview mirror. The parking lot was full now. Dozens of cars. Every one of them was the same. White. Red stripe. No license plates. I slammed the car into drive. The exit was gone. Where the road should have been, there was another In-N-Out building. Same sign. Same palm trees. Same glowing menu. I drove around it. Another building. Then another. Every one had the lights on. Every one had the same voice coming through the speaker. “Can I take your order?” I kept driving until my gas light came on. Then I saw something ahead. A police car. I pulled over. The officer approached my window. He looked inside. Then at the bag on my passenger seat. His expression changed. “Where did you get that?” I told him. He stepped back. “Don’t open it.” “Why?” He didn’t answer. He walked to his cruiser and called someone. I watched him through the windshield. He was staring at me. Then at the bag. Then at his radio. Suddenly, his cruiser lights turned off. He drove away. I was alone again. My phone buzzed. A photo had been sent to me. It showed my car. Taken from behind. I looked at the timestamp. It was tomorrow. Then another photo arrived. My car was parked outside the same In-N-Out. But the driver’s door was open. And someone was standing beside it. Wearing a paper hat. My phone buzzed one last time. A message appeared. Thank you for waiting. The bag on my passenger seat rustled. I slowly looked down. There was a receipt sticking out. I pulled it free. At the bottom, beneath the total, were four words. ORDER WILL BE READY SOON. Then I heard the drive-thru speaker behind me. “Daniel?” A pause. “You’re next.” #horrortok #scary #scarystories #horrortiktok #innout
