If the holdout juror has some kind of religious conviction they deem more important than the word of law — one could surmise that they went through jury selection/voir dire and the enter trial knowing they were going to pull this card.

Why do I think this person might be Christian and influenced by the comments made by the prosecution and the witness? Maybe he or she sees that there is reasonable doubt, but their faith prevents them from acquitting her.

There is a woman on here who posted about her experience as a juror (she is also a practicing attorney). It was a Murder 1 charge. There was 1 holdout juror who just felt, he killed a guy therefore he is guilty of Murder 1 (a white man, ofc). The rest felt it was self defense. They all compromised to appease that one man, and went with manslaughter 😭 they felt he was not guilty altogether. But one white guy had to get his way. I’m still horrified. The concern was if it were a mistrial, would the next jury convict him of Murder 1. I’m glad the holdout juror is receiving pushback for not following the instructions. “I don’t care what the law says, she’s guilty” is you wanting to use the legal system to enact revenge, at that point.

I've posted this story to a few people's comment sections, but the first time I did Jury Duty I chated with a few people over lunch while waiting to be called. I was young so never done it before, but others shared their experiences. One woman had been a juror on a murder trial that she said was obviously self defense. She noted a history of abuse and DV was presented and everyone agreed except for 1 guy. They spent a week trying to get this guy to budge and he was refusing and saying he didn't care. They changed him out with one of the alternates and had it agreed upon within a couple hours it was self defense.

This case has become moral opinion vs legal reality. I guarantee you that is the exact issue with that one juror. We can see it throughout the comments on TikTok people using their moral opinion on murder, women, and mental health, while dismissing what the legal framework actually says.
