@compassioncurator: The greatest honor of my life will always be knowing they feel safe with me. Especially the ones who have every reason not to. The ones who have been chased away, neglected, hit, abandoned, starved, or taught through experience that human hands are something to fear. They don’t know what rescue means. They don’t know our intentions. They don’t understand our promises. They only know how we make them feel. So when a frightened dog finally comes closer… when a body that was once tense begins to soften… when they choose to rest beside you, lean into your hand, or close their eyes in your presence… That trust means everything to me. Because trust cannot be demanded. It cannot be forced. It has to be earned quietly, patiently, through the way we show up again and again. I’ve been fortunate enough to do many things in this life, but I don’t think anything will ever mean more to me than being chosen as safe by another living being. To every animal who has ever placed their trust in me: I will never stop trying to deserve it. ❤️
