My husband and have unlocked "I'm in the car with my mom/dad. Let me put you on speaker and tell her/him what you told me" level of teenage tea. Then we have our daughter's friends telling what they heard. We also have a son in college who has reached the age of "do you remember that one time..." confess all the shit I did as a kid.

My parents would interrupt me to tell me how dangerous something was or to give me parent advice like “never leave your drink unattended!” And I was always like “ugh!! You’re RUINING my story! I don’t even want to tell you now..”

One time I asked my 15 year old if she could tell me the other girls point of view so I could get both sides of the story and she said “OMG MOM, there is no other side to the story. why would you even care about that??” and then didn’t talk to me for the rest of the car ride home. I’ve learned my lesson to just keep my commentary to “oh wow” or “dang that’s crazy” 🙃

I have to delay telling things to my mother by a good one month at least otherwise I don't have the patience to deal with her reactions 💔 she will always fixate on the most random, miniscule, irritating little thing instead of listening to the actual story

I drove my daughter and a few of her friends to various Haunted Houses at Halloween time. I sat quietly and listened to their gossip. They were so engrossed that I’m sure they forgot I was there. I heard a whole bunch of stuff. My wife, on the other hand, drove our daughter and her cheerleader friends to competitions and decided to join in on conversations. The girls clammed up. I had to explain to my wife that silence is Golden.
