It’s not that the juror doesn’t agree on the verdict- it’s much more serious than that. The juror admitted to having reasonable doubt but is refusing to follow the law and give the benefit of that doubt to the defendant. That violates the oath they took as a juror and should be replaced with an alternate

Jury system is weird, in the Netherlands we just have people who studied law (instead of the baker down the street) decide if someone is guilty or if there’s reasonable doubt

This isn’t about whether one juror has a different opinion. Jurors are allowed to disagree about the verdict. The issue is whether the juror is actually following the judge’s legal instruction. That instruction is not up for debate - the judge decides the law, and all 12 jurors have to apply it

So, is Massachusetts inefficient when it comes to conducting a solid judicial investigation, securing good prosecutors, selecting a jury that follows instructions, and having a judge who enforces the rules? All of that took far too long because everyone involved did a "half-hearted" job.

A difference of opinion is fine but this juror isn't following the law. They should be removed and either go with the other 11 or replace them. Although replacing this late into deliberations and the potential for the jurors who weren't used having now looked at social media that may be difficult
