My first thought was - he probably mourned the loss of his mother years before she was actually gone. I would argue that mourning the loss of a person but knowing they are still a choice is much harder than losing them to death.

maybe I've been neglected by my parents too much, because I had zero judgment on this fictional man from the beginning 😅

i attended my fathers funeral last week. i visited him twice in the last few months of his life. this was after years of mostly no contact, due to His shitty behaviour. i showed up because my sibling needed me to, and everyone told me i would regret not going. i sat through a funeral where everyone said how beautiful & caring my father was, my father who is the reason i have cptsd & am physically disabled. i dont know if not going wouldve been better, but being there hurt a Lot.

"That's your mom" I know right, and how awful that she's made me feel like this last action is the correct choice for me.

I didn't speak to my father for more than a decade and hadn't laid eyes on him for more than two. Meaning that he'd never met his only grandchildren. He died. I arranged the burial. I did not attend it.

I can’t stand it when people tell me how I’m gonna feel in the future… they should use those magical future telling powers to tell me the winning lottery numbers instead. 😂😂

he wont regret it. most likely he will find out all the horrible stuff his mother said about him in his absence and be so happy he didnt go.

I have a very happy healthy relationship with my parents and I immediately thought "he's not obligated to go". I never went to my aunt's husband's funeral, I barely met the man, I barely know my aunt. I'm not participating in some masquerade of grieve for no reason. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The first thing I thought was: if someone skips the funeral of their mum, there is a damn good reason behind it. Who in their right mind would assume, that the reason was malice?

As someone that is estranged from my mom, I will not be attending her funeral whenever that happens. My family is the same. Showing up = forgiveness, but I haven’t talked to my mom in 12 years so…yeah wouldn’t feel regret not going.

“She’s still your mother” but I was her child! I was still her child when she beat me! I was still her child when I was made to look after her other child! I was still her child when she used to starve me! I’m not her child anymore I haven’t been for 15 years she is not still my mum! When she does go I will not go to her funeral because you wouldn’t go to a strangers funeral so why should I?
