In 1916 only — during WWI — the national day (then called Anniversary/Foundation Day, not Australia Day yet) was moved from 26 Jan to Friday 28 July, to tie in with National Recruiting Week and boost enlistment. It went back to 26 Jan in 1917 and 1918, and has stayed there ever since. So it was a one‑off wartime change — never a permanent date, and never called Australia Day back then. 🇦🇺 soul die rs Equals Soldiers
