I used to have a pretty slick ponytail. There were different ways I did it. Beeswax and pump it up if I needed it to last. For a regular day though, my hair was pressed with crème press at the roots and a little runny oil on the ends, something like hot six oil. Tied it up in a bandanna at night to absorb some of the oil. And I washed it and started over weekly.
