@nealkshah: The WORST mosquito season in DECADES is starting - how to protect yourself. Why 1 person was over 100 TIMES more attractive to mosquitoes than the person sitting right next to him - and scientists finally know why. If you're always the one getting eaten alive with bites, it's not your diet, not your "sweet blood" and certainly not your imagination. It's written into your SKIN... and this summer, that matters more than it has in 20+ years. I spent hours going through the peer-reviewed research to make this video, because the U.S. is in the middle of its worst West Nile virus season in more than two decades - and older adults are carrying almost all of the risk. Multiple people have died and the season is running about five times the historical baseline - September is normally the peak. I hope this helps people stay safe and protect their loved ones.
This is a really long video, but extremely fascinating. Watch it if you have any curiosity about science, sometimes the TL;DR isn’t the full story.

Mosquito magnet here. Thanks for the video. Watched it all. I appreciate the tip, but I’m still wondering about citronella, lemongrass and other plants that are supposed to keep mosquitoes at bay. I suppose they don’t work either, huh?

TLDR: wear loose fitting light colors (white, beige, pastel blue) especially around dawn and dusk, place an oscillating fan and eliminate standing water

Effective Solutions:
1. EPA-registered repellents: Use products containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus (PMD) (24:00 - 25:37).
2. Clothing: Wear loose, light-colored, long-sleeved clothing to camouflage yourself and provide a physical barrier (25:45 - 26:35).
3. Wind: Use an oscillating fan on porches to disrupt the mosquito’s flight path and disperse CO2 plumes (26:35 - 27:05).
4. Source Reduction: Eliminate standing water in gutters and containers where mosquitoes breed (27:05 - 27:32).

I use to be a mosquito magnet, but now rarely get bit. At age 21, I started taking garlic pills daily for my health. I didn't notice the change until I went to the drive-in theater by the river with my girl friends. Normally, I'd come home covered in mosquito bites but I didn't have any. My friends all had several bites. I'm 75, still take garlic pills, and still have no problems with mosquitoes.

I have adhd and couldn’t make it through this lbvs but I am allergic to bugs that bite or sting — vicks vapor rub on pulse points neck inner wrist and inner elbow ankles under knee-picardin on skin permethrin on clothes $5 bug spray w pump from hardware store (I use ortho but they’re all pretty similar) spray your house garage porches and yard at nighttime and citronella INCENSE not candles idk what he said but these are tried and true as someone who has always been mosquito repellent for everyone around me😂 even just vicks helps so much and I always buy the kind from the dollar store not brand lol

Forgot my blood type. Loose clothing big mens shirts put repellent on shirt keeps it off your skin light color. Fan idea was new to me. Welcome all the night flyers who eat insects. Monitor your neighbor’s pool and standing water. In L A its called Vector control for mosquitoes, rats. Rabid animals
