I’ve always said the English language is fucked up. Why do we put two letters together to make the sound of a letter? We already have in the alphabet like phone? Why is it PH why isn’t an F?

This is why I used to hate when teachers said “just sound it out” whenever I asked how to spell a word. When kids ask me a word with a silent letter(s) that make so sense or point out that a word with a singular different letter makes a completely different sound. I don’t gas light them into thinking they’re dumb and tell them to just sound it out. I acknowledge how annoying the English language is and tell them how it’s spelled point out the letters in the word that are stupid and tell ‘em “some words you just have to memorize or come up with a trick for it” like Muscle & Mussel, I pronounce the first one Mus-Cull. So I don’t spell it wrong.
