If sports is the first way to crumble the corruption that billionaires feel so emboldened to engage in, then that's fine. And it makes sense. Sports fans are passionate about cheating and the implications that has on sport. Maybe, just maybe, these corruption schemes will be shown to expand beyond the scope of sports and there can be accountability more broadly.

No, that's not what the salary cap is in a nutshell. That's how the salary cap is sold to the public. The cap, like all salary caps, is just cost control for the owners. Nothing more, nothing less. Any competitive balance benefits, if they exist, are secondary if not completely irrelevant. If studies were done that proved no balancing effects, the owners would not discard it. Love Pablo, great work, but you've drank the Kool-Aid on that one point. I was also going to congratulate the NBA (still will), but temper it with the certainty that if Ballmer, Leonard, et al were found to have beaten their significant others, SA'd someone, etc. rather than done something that directly competitively disadvantaged the 31 other owners, the report likely would never have seen the light of day & the punishment (if any) wouldn't have been nearly as decisive.
