Well palworld is a story. Arc raiders and marathon aren’t. If player count is down with palworld it means people finished the game and moved on. Thats not the same with multiplayer games

Its because people have jobs, and school. Not everybody is able to play video games every single day for the whole day. I myself was on a temporary layoff when I first started playing. Now, I am back to work so I can't play every single day

Except games like Marathon and Arc Raiders are games that require a sustainable player count. Bleeding players every day is not good for a game. . We also need to keep in mind that this is JUST Steam charts. They're not counting Xbox, or PlayStation, or in the case of games on other services, they're not counting GOG, or Epic Games player counts. Also consider the AAA devs and their own Launchers, like Battle.Net and EAplay or Ubisoft+. Those numbers aren't counted by steam either. . So when we see a game like Arc Raiders, Marathon, Call of Duty, or even Battlefield, have a Poor player count, comsider that all of those games are on multiple platforms, not just steam, and some games always perform better on one platform over the other. Like how Cod has always been more popular on Console than PC. So Cods low player count on PC, doesn't really matter, since Cod does better on Xbox and PlayStation anyway.

I finished just about everything but I'm still finding excuses to keep playing. not enough skill fruits. not a maxed out version of every pal, both a mount and combat version. not all the legendary schematics. still missing the legendary game hunter. the list goes on

if its a game that runs out of content like palworld/eldenring/skyrim.... then it doesnt mean anything when the numbers drop if its a multiplier game like valornat/siege/cod.... then its the only thing that matters

got to remember the game has also been out for a while, I still play just not as much, beat it so now all that's left is fine tuning my pals and equipment or build another base

Consider this. How many people do you figure that you'll play any given game with? Does that number affect your experience? I honestly think that the only metric that matters is revenue, and even then only because it affects how much money a studio will have to carry to their next project.

Honestly the steam number do not tell the entire story. When I want to know the full concurrent player numbers, I wanna know if across all platforms as a whole. I agree with Bucky. However, Marathon is a situation on its own.

I don't care about player counts, I play all types of games at any given time. I don't need to know if others are playing

Dream does not accurately reflect player count on console because different player types pick different consoles. It’s ALWAYS been like that too, this isn’t new info.

it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other. consoles are infinitely more popular than PCs, so while steam player count may show as say 10,000, the realistic number could be much higher than that. on the other hand, if a game only has 300 players, it's likely a sign that a game isn't very popular in general, and that assumption can be taken over to console too

Concurrent players should only matter in these cases - The game's first year of launch - A game coming out of early access / beta - Any big update or overhaul - The release of DLC Steam is open and honest with gamers because it means they themselves can judge whether it's a good game or just a fad that streamers are farming for clips
