47 cats. That’s what our team found yesterday after receiving a call for help just five days earlier. It was immediately clear the home had become unsafe for both the people living there and the cats they loved. The smell of cat urine filled the air, litter boxes were overwhelmed, and the home had been overtaken by more animals than anyone could reasonably care for. But this wasn’t a story of people who didn’t care. Nearly every cat had been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. One had even recently undergone dental surgery. There were filtered water fountains throughout the home, full food bowls, and every cat had a name. Many greeted our team with purrs and affectionate head bumps the moment we walked through the door. The hardest part? The owners had asked for help before it reached this point. They contacted multiple organizations, but like shelters across the country, resources are stretched incredibly thin. Today, both the cats and their owners are safe. Over the coming weeks, all 47 cats will receive veterinary care, diagnostics, vaccinations, enrichment, and everything they need before finding loving homes. Animal welfare is rarely black and white. Rescue doesn’t always begin where love is absent. Sometimes it begins where love has been overwhelmed. Right now, our team is caring for 47 unexpected cats.
