I used to think scaling a business simply meant getting a bigger factory, buying more equipment and employing more people. I was wrong. The past few weeks have taught me that scaling also means being able to handle the customers you prayed for. For weeks now, we’ve been struggling to keep up with demand. And the funny thing is… I don’t run ads. I haven’t even been marketing as aggressively as I normally would because the orders are already coming in faster than we can produce them. I prayed for this. I prayed for plenty customers. I prayed for bulk orders. I prayed for people to trust Tom Confectioneries. And now I’m learning that sometimes, the answer to your prayer comes with a new responsibility. Because imagine producing all week and thinking: “Finally! This week we’ll catch up.” Then one customer orders 15 DOZEN Peanut Burgers. Another wants 50 pieces. Another wants 200. Another wants 500. Then the regular retail orders are still coming. Wholesale orders are coming. Branded orders are coming. And suddenly everything you thought was enough… isn’t enough anymore. At one point, I genuinely considered temporarily stopping new orders so we could clear everything already in production. Because for me, growth isn’t collecting everybody’s money and keeping them waiting indefinitely. Growth should also mean having the capacity to deliver what you’ve sold. And that’s the part of scaling people don’t talk about enough. More customers require: More raw materials. More production capacity. More hands. Better systems. Better inventory planning. More working capital. And stronger operations. So yes, I’m grateful. Extremely grateful. But I’m also paying attention. Because I don’t want Tom Confectioneries to simply become a business that gets plenty orders. I want to build a manufacturing company capable of handling those orders excellently. This season is showing me exactly where we need to grow next. And we will. One production batch at a time. 🤍
