If you're a developer in 2026 and you're not using /goal and /loop in Claude Code, you're missing the most fun part of the job. The question isn't "can AI review my pull request." It's: can it watch the PR for four hours while you go do something you actually enjoy? Two commands. Paste them and walk away: ⌨️ /goal Watch this PR until merged. Check new review comments. If a comment is a real blocker, explain the fix and ask my permission before changing code or pushing. For everything else, just draft a reply for me. ⌨️ /loop 5m Here's what those two lines actually buy you: 1️⃣ IT WATCHES — /loop 5m wakes Claude Code every five minutes so you don't have to sit refreshing GitHub. → Perfect for: the PR that's blocked on one reviewer in another timezone 2️⃣ IT ASKS FIRST — a real blocker needs your yes before anything gets pushed. That permission clause isn't decoration, it's the guardrail. → Perfect for: sleeping without wondering what got force-pushed 3️⃣ IT DRAFTS — every non-blocking comment comes back as a reply you can send in one click. → Perfect for: the nitpick thread that eats your afternoon 4️⃣ IT KNOWS WHEN TO STOP — goal met, hook clears, loop ends by itself. 👀 That fourth one is the part almost nobody gets. /loop on its own runs forever — you stop it, it never stops itself. /goal is what gives it an exit. Under the hood /goal is a session-scoped Stop hook: after every turn it hands the condition plus the conversation to a small fast model, which returns not yet or met. Met clears the goal. That's the whole mechanism. PAIR THEM. /loop IS THE HEARTBEAT. /goal IS THE OFF SWITCH. The failure mode that will bite you: the goal evaluator only reads the conversation. It never runs a command and it never opens a file. So if nothing inside your loop actually fetches the PR — a `gh pr view`, a status check, something — there's nothing in the transcript to judge, and it will cheerfully report not yet until you Ctrl+C it. Put the fetch in the loop body. This is the shift. You're not prompting anymore. You're writing a stopping condition and going for a walk. 📸 Screenshot the last frame — the full command plus all four benefits. Save it before your next code review.
