@youngoceanexplorers: It's that time of year when the paikea/humpbacks have it all figured out. While we're shivering through a New Zealand winter, they've cruised past us and are soaking up the warmth of the tropics, where they mate and have their calves. But keep on the lookout as there's always the odd straggler hanging around our coast! Here's how to spot one: humpbacks have a small stubby dorsal fin and extra long pectoral fins, up to a third of their body length. Watch the video to learn more! Footage by Steve Hathaway
