Who were the Minoans? Part 1 🏺 | Long before Classical Greece, the Minoans built palace complexes on Crete, traded with Egypt and Syria, produced some of the most distinctive art of the Bronze Age, and wrote in a language we still can't read. At Knossos, archaeologists uncovered enormous storage magazines, the so-called Throne Room, the famous Snake Goddess figurines, vivid frescoes, and hundreds of administrative tablets. The palace itself stretched across more than 20,000 square metres and functioned as a major religious, economic, and political centre. And by its final phase, something had changed. The last administrative records at Knossos were written not in Linear A, but in Linear B: Greek. This is one of the clearest signs that the palace had eventually fallen under Mycenaean control.
