@newsnexussa: The South African Police Service (SAPS) members from Organised Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga, have arrested a 44-year-old Police Sergeant attached to the Secunda Flying Squad. The Sergeant was arrested this morning, Friday, 4 September 2026, in connection with a diesel truck hijacking incident which occurred in Bethal in May 2026. He is expected to appear at the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 September 2026, facing a charge of truck hijacking. It is reported that a diesel truck was hijacked in Bethal, on 2 May 2026. The case was escalated to the Mpumalanga Provincial #OrganisedCrime Investigation Unit for further investigation. The team worked around the clock and made a breakthrough, where four suspects were subsequently arrested in July 2026. Further investigation revealed that a Police Officer may have been involved in the planning of the hijacking. A warrant of arrest was issued against the Sergeant, and hence it was successfully executed by the astute members.
