I don’t know why, as humans, we like to view primitive societies of ours as “dirty” because they did what they did without knowledge of bacteria and science etc that we have now. I mean still do it now, not humas live with cows but our large barn in insulated and 120 cows keep it warm in winter, coldest it got in there was 38°f and it was -42°f outside amd we have fans in there that turn on and off for fresh air so it doesn't get too warm

My dad’s WW2 obsessed and in the 2000s we stayed at camp hale over the Valentine’s Day weekend (whatever days were closest). 🙃 grew up in an old michigan farm house. plaster for walls, no insulation, up stairs west side next to an open field. extremely cold in the winter. we had a Woodstove downstairs in the kitchen and thats it. I slept with soap rocks. roll them up in a towel, place them in bed. take a shower and come back and the bed was warm. lol
