I’m worried about Jeff. He’s one of the many overlooked German Shepherds at our shelter. When he first arrived in December, I helped with a meet & greet. I remember feeling so excited that someone had asked to see him… but my excitement quickly faded when I saw it on their faces. He wasn’t the dog for them. He hasn’t had a meet and greet since. Jeff is a rambunctious little boy …in the best way possible. He’s goofy, energetic, full of life, and he’s grown on me so much. I secretly always hope he’s on my walk list when I get to the shelter, just so I can spend extra time with him 🤫 He’s incredibly tolerant. I’ve dressed him up several times (he’s very patient with my antics lol) and he lets me touch his tail, his snoot, his paws …he trusts people. But his only flaw….after months of living in a loud, stressful kennel, Jeff has become really barrier reactive. The shelter is recommending him as the only dog in the home. This doesn’t mean his reactivity will translate outside of the shelter environment but it does mean he’ll need a patient, kind adopter who understands that decompression takes time. Jeff has been living in a constant state of overwhelm since December. He hasn’t had a chance to exhale. He’s now one of the longest residents at the shelter, and he’s at risk of euthanasia.
