Today’s food routine with Mr Max was chaos… but the controlled kind that actually shows progress. I got in a bit later than his usual feeding time, and by the time I walked in, he already knew what was coming. Food was out, and he was fully locked in excited, alert, waiting on that “just drop it” moment. But instead of rushing in, I changed the routine. In all our training, I usually tell him “stay” when I open the gate and he understands it in that context. But I’ve never really tested it properly outside his cage… so today I did. I asked for the sit. I asked for the stay. At first, he wanted to break. You could see the excitement, the impatience, the food right in front of him pulling him in. And in between, he even tried to sneak little tastes out of anxiety… but I didn’t flinch. I stayed firm, stayed in command mode, and didn’t reset the structure. So he held it. Not perfect, not clean but controlled. And that’s the win. Then I gave the release command… and only then did he go for his food.
