So another thing that this passage is establishing is that God has ultimate authority. 'Who are you O man....' is saying who are we to question God's motives, plans, authority? This is God's creation, we are God's creation. If God chose to destroy absolutely all of it tomorrow... He would have no one to answer to. But He doesn't and He won't because He loves us. So if He raises someone up for a specific purpose... who are we to question Him for it? Look at Job's life... Job by all accounts was a very blessed man. A God fearing, God loving man. And God used him to prove a point to satan, why? For His glory... The Bible never tells us that God ever explained to Job why those things happened to him... but Job continued to glorify God... even in his anger and in turn God blessed him double what he lost. Its about surrender and submitting to God's will and trusting His plan.

So even though I have tried follow him for the last 40 years, He withholds from me because He already knows I'll fail. Basically, nothing I choose will alter my fate. It's already done from His point of view.

Man, I've had the predestination vs. free will discussing at length. More than a few times. I believe in both. The greatest minds in Christian theology and literature couldn't agree on how these things would balance if put on a hypothetical scale. I have contended that the scripture tells us it's both but doesn't explain much further and for a good reason. I think, this is one of the higher level concepts where it's a both/and situation that doesn't fully fit into our 3 dimensional logic (i guess 4 since we're also talking about time and the infinite). I think to fully understand/comprehend this issue, requires a heavenly or devine perspective honestly. Dink, if I'm out of line, street me right brother. I'm a "returning" Christian that learned a lot early in life then took 20 years to find true salvation (not on my terms).

So does that mean that the hearts he hardens he does so as an example to the rest of us because he already has seen and knows that they themselves will choose the wrong path and stay there? Like when he hardened pharaoh’s heart it was not because he chose that for him, but because he already knew pharaoh was not going to choose the Lord in the end so he made him an example and to show his power and authority? I was confused on that for a bit, but this is what I’m thinking now. Is this thinking correct?

never thought I'd hear a calvinist argument from this channel... AND I KNOW you're just reading scripture, but this particular passage is quite a hard pill to swallow. The logical follow through (even for me) is that God created people for the sole purpose of eternal torment. If none can resist Him (true), then anyone He calls, answers (necessarily true). So, if He doesn't call you, He never wanted you (final conclusion). I'm sorry to even post such a disheartening message. In truth, I think it's simply a passage that we have failed to understand.

ironic bc the potters clay example is old testament reference, where God talks of free will, if God says He'll judge a nation and they repent, He can turn away from it, and vice versa of a nation starts doing evil, He can turn away the blessings they would have had and enact judgment instead. So I'd say free will is more the case, honestly it sounds like Paul is wrong here (and if you disagree, he also says doesn't nature also show it's a shame for men to have long hair, to which i wonder, huh? what are you talking about?). We treat Paul's letters to the churches as infallible, I don't think that's fully accurate, seems more like a pastor talking to other churches, but that doesn't necessarily mean he got it 100% right. Maybe? Either way, Bible does under free will from the very start. Choice between two trees. Choose this day whom you will serve. And a fair judgment day cannot exist without choice. God is not willing that ANY perish but that all repent and be saved, and yet we know some ppl will end up in hell. Thats free will, and God not always getting what He wants

I told my buddy God chose us, cause that is what the bible says. we argued. I told him just cause God chose you doesnt take away the decision you made to surrender to God. however, God gets all the glory and we have nothing but Him to boast about

Seems to me if He chooses to harden a heart, it’s bc He already sees a hardened heart in the clay — it’s His affirmation of what the individual has chosen, so He then uses the hardened heart for good.

He knows who will be his so He works his will in our lives in a way that will draw us to him. While those that He knows are going to reject Him He still gives opportunity to because He is Just but perhaps not in the same way or to the same degree as someone He knows will accept Him…. Moralism is just another label for pride. Believing we know justice better than God, love better than God, mercy better than God, etc. is utterly foolish. The one who literally brought everything into existence is going to be told by what He created how it should be? There’s nothing wrong with wrestling with God’s word and His thoughts, but when it comes to believing we’ve got a moral high ground over the creator, is when we’ve made the choice for God to harden us.
