this is what eritreans are going through just to survive. he came from libya carrying memories that no human being should ever have to live with. he was electrocuted, burned, tortured, forced to witness people die, and had dead bodies stacked on top of him. imagine being trapped in a place where people are dying around you, knowing that you could be next. imagine surviving something like that and having to live with those memories for the rest of your life. and this is still the reality for eritreans today. people are leaving eritrea because they are desperate for freedom, safety, and a life where they can actually have a future. but the journey out can become another nightmare. eritreans are still being kidnapped, tortured, beaten, trafficked, abused, held for ransom, and treated like they are worth nothing. people see an eritrean refugee and only see someone who “left their country.” they don’t see what happened before they left. they don’t see what happens on the journey. they don’t see the fear, the suffering, the families being separated, or the risks people are taking right now just to reach somewhere safe. this man survived something that could have killed him. he witnessed people die right in front of him. he was tortured and left carrying trauma that no person should ever have to carry. and there are still eritreans going through unimaginable things today. these are the stories that need to be heard. eritreans are not numbers. they are not statistics. they are not just “refugees.” they are sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters. they are human beings who deserve to live without fear of being tortured, kidnapped, imprisoned, or killed. please listen to his story before judging eritreans for leaving. you may never understand what someone had to survive just to reach safety. this is still happening. people are still suffering. people are still fleeing. and people are still dying trying to find a place where they can finally feel safe. we cannot keep ignoring what eritreans are going through. we cannot keep looking away. their suffering deserves to be acknowledged. their stories deserve to be heard. and their lives deserve to matter. #Eritrea #HumanRights #Refugees #Justice #Africa
