I had a nursing student lean over and tell me the patient’s blood pressure cuff was placed incorrectly. Intubated, sedated, pressors etc. the cuff was cycling every 15. He said, “you shouldn’t leave it on like that.” I said, “those are really big ideas from someone who still goes to the pediatrician.”

Recently worked with a new grad: less than a year of experience. She got a new job at a different hospital, so on her last shift I gave her a hug and told her “go spread your wings and learn ALL the things!” (I was truly excited for her) Her reply: “learn what? I already know what I’m doing.”😳😳😳

I’m in my senior practicum in the trauma ICU and it is WILD how different real practice is from what is taught in nursing school. They’re really just teaching us to pass the NCLEX, real life is gonna hurt 😳
