Let’s talk about tattooing melanated skin 🎨 I made this video a while ago and have learned more and realized since this that these principles stay the same for a great dynamic tattoo for EVERY skin tone. One of the lessons I’ve learned is that visibility isn’t only about which colors you choose; it’s about their intensity and value. Higher-chroma colors tend to appear more clearly, while muted colors can look darker and become less distinguishable once healed. Creating strong contrast between your light and dark values is just as important, which is why choosing a reference with balanced lighting and defined shadows can make such a difference. BUT ultimately these are the same values I hold for every skin tone! Everyone deserves beautiful tattoos, and all of it is possible no matter the tone of your skin.
