The runway sits on a narrow peninsula, with the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Bay of Gibraltar on the other. That means aircraft approaching from the east come in right over the water before touching down on the runway. And then there is the mountain. Gibraltar’s famous Rock sits immediately beside the airport, making the approach even more visually dramatic.
