If you travel and buy dresses, shoes, phones or other items for your wife, children, mother, friends or other family members who did not travel with you, those items are considered gifts and are not covered by the traveller’s baggage concession. Under Section 17(1) of the Exemptions Act, 2022 (Act 1083), baggage is exempt from customs duties and taxes, but goods given as gifts are excluded. The law also provides specific concessions for certain items under Section 107(5)(A) & (B) of the Customs Act, 2015 (Act 891).
