@goatcult.media: On May 15, 2026, a person walking a dog spotted a burning SUV behind a warehouse on the west side of San Antonio, Texas. After firefighters extinguished the flames, they discovered 5-year-old Adrian Vidal and his 6-year-old sister, Aleeza Vidal, dead inside. Their mother, 34-year-old Marlene Vidal, was at the scene and was later arrested. The medical examiner determined that both children had actually died from multiple sharp force injuries before the fire, and their deaths were ruled homicides. Vidal has since been indicted on multiple felony charges, including capital murder, injury to a child, arson and tampering with evidence. Investigators say surveillance footage, evidence from the scene and statements Vidal made pointed to her as the person responsible. Her relatives have also said they repeatedly tried to get authorities to intervene because they believed she was experiencing a serious mental-health crisis before the killings. As of September 2026, Vidal remains in jail awaiting trial. Prosecutors told the court this week that they have not yet decided whether they will seek the death penalty.
