I don't know why, but I'm Vietnamese and I've never touched alcohol in my life, and I find the smell unpleasant.My husband is Slavic, so he drinks a lot. Every time his friends come over, after I prepare the snacks, he tells me to go to room or tells me to go shopping to clear my head. When his friends arrive and see me, they are like, "Excuse me for bothering my best friend's wife today," super polite and sweet.Actually, those things aren't really in line with Slavic culture - I guess ; it's just that my husband said I don't like the smell of alcohol, but I'm still hospitable, so they have to respect me. My husband respects me, so he allows me not to force myself to conform to things I don't like.So, who says it's a matter of cultural harmony? The culture of one place doesn't necessarily have to conform to the culture of another; it's not about forcing someone to adopt a culture that shocks them.
