We got a question asking
We got a question asking "How would would tape chronic patella instability after years of repeated dislocation?" so Ben Warburton, our Head of Medical, broke it down for us. Here's his recommended application: You’ll need 3.8cm Zinc Oxide Tan Tape, and 7.5cm TEAR EAB. Start with your anchors – around the thigh and upper shin, using the 7.5cm TEAR EAB. Do 1 wrap around the lower thigh, doesn’t need to be too high up because we’re just targeting the patella and the kneecap with this application. Add your second anchor around the upper shin – not too much tension on the tape, just lay it on so it’s nice and comfortable. Then, with our 3.8cm Zinc Oxide Tape in Tan, we’re going to try and compress the patella and try to keep it linear within its groove so we get less lateral movement. For that perception, you start off right below it. Get full tension on the tape, bend the knee slightly, and do this on each side through a few different angles of knee flexion. Apply by compressing the lateral border of the patella, then repeat on the other side. You can start the other side in a similar spot, just make sure you’re trying to “hug” the patella and really compress it and centralise it. You can layer this until you’e happy with the support, before locking off the application with horizontal strips along the top and bottom of your Zinc Oxide Tape. If you need more flexion in the knee, tape the patella with the knee in more flexion. Finally, lock it all off with more TEAR EAB.
