@theoceantourist: Terso the upside down killer whale is famous! This past week proved exactly why. We’ve been overwhelmed by an incredible streak of Orca encounters, including this video circulating through multiple news outlets. It deserves a home on our own social media, too. A huge thank‑you to the whale‑watching community here in San Diego for assisting in the search and relocation efforts. Spending three days with San Diego’s famous pod of Eastern Tropical Pacific Killer Whales is something we never could have imagined. What made this encounter especially refreshing was the lack of overcrowding. Conditions have been a bit rough offshore, but that may have helped ensure that the majority of vessels observing these whales were ethical, responsible operators following safe viewing guidelines — including maintaining distance, reducing speed, and shutting down engines when whales surface nearby. As of now, the pod has left San Diego. Whether they return is entirely up to them — these visits can’t be predicted.
